Common questions about the Sawvant API. Can't find what you're looking for? Contact us.

How do I get an API key?

Register for a free account at sawvant.com. Once logged in, go to your dashboard and create an API key under the Keys section. You can create multiple keys and revoke them at any time.

What are the rate limits?

The Free plan includes 100 Fast requests per day. The Pro plan includes 500 Fast and 50 Thorough requests per day. Rate limits reset on a 24-hour sliding window. Custom volume is available on request.

What is the difference between Fast and Thorough strategies?

Fast returns a good cutting pattern in milliseconds. Thorough spends more time exploring combinations and typically achieves 3-8% higher material efficiency. Thorough is available on the Pro plan.

What input formats are supported?

The API accepts JSON requests with stock lengths/dimensions and required cuts. See the API documentation for the full schema and examples.

Can I use SSE streaming for long-running optimizations?

Yes. Both strategies support Server-Sent Events (SSE) streaming. This lets you receive progress updates and intermediate results as the optimization runs, rather than waiting for the final result.

How does billing work?

Paid plans are billed monthly through Stripe. You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel at any time from your dashboard. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

Do you store my cutting data?

Request payloads (your cutting dimensions and material data) are not stored beyond the time needed to process your request. We log metadata (timestamps, status codes, API key identifier) for rate limiting and debugging, retained for 90 days.

What happens when I hit the rate limit?

You receive a 429 Too Many Requests response with a Retry-After header indicating when you can make the next request. Your existing results are not affected.

Is there an SDK available?

Yes, we provide an official Go SDK. Check the documentation for installation instructions and usage examples. SDKs for other languages are on the roadmap.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Go to your dashboard, open the Billing section, and click Manage Subscription. This opens the Stripe customer portal where you can cancel. Your access continues until the end of the current billing period.
